After Nightwing, Superboy's my favorite DC character. He was the only reason I ever read Superman comics. I liked how different he was from Superman. He's a clone, he's got different powers. He holds girls up in the air -- by the ass -- with one hand. What's not to like?
I really liked Tom Grummett's design. When they first changed Superboy's suit a little I wasn't too bothered by it. But I absolutely hate the black shirt and jeans thing. Hate it. There wasn't any reason to Michael Bay Superboy.
So...
My first rule was no black. I liked the original design, but I wanted to stick to Superman's colors. Since Superboy's from Metropolis and he was always following the trends, I went for a more current "urban" look. It was kind of hard to find a nice medium because I didn't want him to look like a poser or a douche bag. Everything is actually current, right down to the Oakley sunglasses (which are very hard to draw). Actually, this is kinda close to his second suit, just not shiny. But I wanted them to look like street clothes so I pulled the color value down some. It's still costumey, but if you took off the S-shield you could imagine someone wearing something like this.
The idea behind all the red is that it's sort of reminiscent of a cape. The red sort of drapes his arms and legs like a cape would. Plus when he flies you'll get that nice red streak with the blue in the middle.
hey nice it's like a combination of the original design and the slight update. Yea I was also bugged by Micheal Turner's version (may he rest in peace) but it wasn't really all that bad just a tad lazy to me is all.YEa this is definitely more of a 'House of El' design in mind. Gotta keep it in the family..even if you are a clone

Very cool! It's a great update of the old costume. Superman-like, but neither using the 90's leather jacket fad, nor the not-a-costume thing that he had in TT.
Also, thanks for keeping his musculature appropriate. I think someone forgot that Superboy had tactile telekinesis, and not ACTUAL super-strength when they redesigned him. He looked like he went to the Ultimate Warrior school of bodybuilding and became 4 years older than everyone else out of nowhere. ^_^
Kudos! Yours kicks butt!
